Communication Skills – So your kids can walk the walk, but can they talk the talk?

Communication skills is something we use everyday, but how well we do use it causes the seperation between society. When children are brought up, they mainly listen to their parents and occasionally, their teachers.

Tips to Get Your Kids Communicating Effectively!

Parents play a big essential role in the development of how their children talk as the bond between the both is greater than anyone elses. With these tips, you can set a good example and control your childrens contact with society.

  • Ask Open Ended Questions. I’m sure you know how it feels when people respond to you with a one worded answer. The solution to this is to ask questions where your kid can respond by expressing his/her feelings and opinions.
  • Pay Attention and Be Interested. Keep direct eye contact when speaking and listening to your kids and they won’t be reluctant to share their feelings with you.
  • Carry On The Conversation. Make sure that you respond with interest and extend the length of the conversion, this will encourage your children to talk more.
  • Share Your Thoughts. If you are thinking about something such as what to wear to a dinner, ask for your kids opinion as this will get him/her involved and engaged in conversation.
  • Kids Chat Rooms. This is a good way for your kids to communicate to other kids so they have a better understanding of society. Be sure to assist your kids and know about Internet Saftey.
  • Engaging in Communication Games. There are loads of communication activities your kids can engage in to improve their social and speaking skills. You can find these on the Internet or just be creative and make them up!
  • Put yourself in their shoes. Not literally because they won’t fit, but understanding how your child feels is one of the most important things a lot of parents don’t do. If your child is angry about something, take the time to discuss about how they feel and why.
  • Childrens communication abilities are only going to be top notch if you put in the effort everyday and conversate with them. Adults, parents and teachers are the ones who sets the foundation for a kids future.

Set a good example and always be interested in what your children have to say, and their communication skills won’t turn out poor.
